Well in the anime on of the akistsiku members said something about how they were the first ones to try and save a person with a monster inside.

I feel that Naruto, although its quite good, is reaching the end... I mean, the kyuubi in naruto is rising, and the akatsuki will soon be attacking him. It's likely that the monster will come out of Naruto in this arc, and that he will be reunited with Sasuke. In that case, what more is there for the story? Another indefinite filler arc? I think that soon the series will end, which is a shame, as it brought in many people who hadnt read manga before. Still, sometimes a manga just has to die...

I don't think it'll end yet. It's just too popular.

The main conflicts Kishimoto brought up during the first parts of the manga will all be answered once they finish the current story arc they are in now. Although it's sad to see it end, I really feel that the story is drawing to a close.
It's impossible to have fillers in the manga but the anime might just put in a few more just to take advantage of Naruto's popularity.
And about Naruto being over-rated and all, I personally think that Naruto is more of a character-driven story that a plot-driven one. Sure the plot is great, but the characters Kishimoto makes is what really makes an impression. And I don't think the subplots are poorly developed. Maybe he didn't mention more about other towns since they really don't matter to the story. And those made up towns are just the anime's attempt to have a filler story.
