Still doesn't explain why Neji would only have finished at 12. He would have been miles ahead of anyone else. (although naruto did beat him...)
And Sasuke "has more raw talent than Kakkashi" sooo not really explaining the age difference thing eighter.
But Itachi did finish sooner and only a few years before his brother, so the system must have been changed since then right?
I wonder if nobody asked this before at a Q&A with Kishi-san?

it really is futile
its obvious to me that they are vague with ages and what not so they can fit alot more details in with out causing confusion i think later on after they have the story worked out itll be revealed...

Er.. Geyter when was it stated that Sasuke has more raw talent than Kakashi? I couldn't remember that part.
On topic, I stick to the change of system theory, simply put that Kakashi period was a war period and probabaly Itachi period too so the school system is more rushed to produce ninja, so we can see ppl like Obito can become Chuunin (he sucks at the gaiden) but at Naruto period, Fire Country has make peace with surrounding country thus the school system was changed to more systematic way somewhere between Naruto enrollment...
That's my thought only but I believe it's reasonable

And yeah that's probably it, but if this is the case why is naruto the same age as everybody else (when would he have time to fail 3 times?)

well,on the 1st episode it stated that Naruto is not very good at the transform jutsu,and he probally started school earlier than the rest becuz he had no parents..

I think Kakashi and Itachi were able to graduate faster, besides being geniuses, is because of the laws back then. Itachi and Kakashi both were from different time periods than Naruto or the rest. The requirements might've changed from that time or something.
