In midair when he was trying to escape with Luffy. Akainu punched right through Jinbe and scarred Luffy's chest.

Confusedet4_roflmao: Whitebeard tried his hardest, came to the war knowing he would die, but he chose Ace's life over his own. And then Ace goes and wastes the effort. Whitebeard didn't fail, he achieved everything he ever wanted. But when you are his biggest hater, you are oblivious to such things
