Bio: I don't really remember exactly when it happened. But it's certain that the demons began appearing after a certain night when many stars fell from the moon. Defeating monsters is the duty of warriors!
My father had been a low-ranking officer in the Hwarang and while he never distinguished himself as a swordsman, he was known as a wise and virtuous man.
Maybe that was why he wasn't satisfied one bit when I passed the Hwarang military examination in my teens. Or the other fact! My brother, the only one my father had any expectations for died four years ago in a battle against foreigners. Or so the records say, but actually it was suicide. He was a surprisingly sensitive man. So sensitive he couldn't bear the biting words of our father.
I too was to bring the heads of demons to my father, so I left the home to hunt down monsters. Never forgetting my brothers words:
"Don't tense up, Won Sul. Even though that's a real sword, it is no different from a wooden one. Accept your fear and make it your best friend, Won Sul. You have nothing to fear. I'm right by your side, aren't I?
However, all I could find was the very fact that we humans are the cruelest. If I wanted to survive, I had to be strong. The first monster I had slain, was the real victim of the merchants it was surrounded by; but by the time I found out that fact I had lost Chin Dalrae, a faithtfulÂcompanion. However, no tears would come, even though he had been my attendant for over a decade! Every time I lose what is precious to me, the pain makes the days seem longer and longer. I find that terrifying to the point of madness. So terrifying! I didn't want to grieve anymore!
At that moment, I met a strange, innocent looking, child deep in the mountains. Saying she was lonely and wanted to play. It was a strange night. Chin Dalrae was dead, and the night was full of the stench of death- even more so than usual. I played hide-and-seek with a strange child until dawn. As though we were siblings, without a care in the world.
Right before we parted ways, that strange friend told me where she was from. Rather, she pointed the moon up in the sky. The demons began appearing around the time many stars fell from the moon. Defeating monsters is the duty of warriors!
After parting ways with her, I brought back human heads to my father. The real bad guys; the cruelest ones. Of course, my father had gone mad and accused me of being like him.
That was the first time, no ... it was the first and last time I ever talked back to him.
“By him.. do you mean my brother? What offense did my brother commit? All he did was releasing a hostage on the battlefield. Even though that hostage returned with reinforcements my brother made that because he was a human being! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DISOWN HIM? YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST KEPT DOGS! DOGS THAT OBEY YOU AND DO EXACTLY AS YOU SAY!
That night, I too was abandoned. Two months later, father died. At that time, demons did attack the village. Who knew my clan would be brought to ruin by villagers uniting to eradicate the demons' lair? My father's body could only be identified by an accessory he wore. Just what in the world am I supposed to do? How do people keep on living in this mad world? Living, is all too terrifying!
Years later; I became an official member of the Hwarang Division. It was when I met General Munsu.
His first words to me were carved in my head, deep enough that even death would not erase them:
"Listen, Won Sul. I hate guys like you the most! Softies like you always cause trouble during battle. If you plan on crying like a girl again, just go home! Otherwise accept your fear and make it your best friend."
I don't really remember exactly when it happened. But it's certain that the demons began appearing after a certain night when many stars fell from the moon. Defeating monsters is the duty of warriors!
When I saw that strange child of that time once more, leading the demon army we were going to face against; I had made up my mind:
I don't care anymore!
about the reasons for me to keep on living.
I will definitely show them!
